Hello, and welcome to my page! I’m Rachel, a historical fiction writer with a passion for sharing stories from the past with all generations. My stories focus on ordinary people thrust into historic events.

My love for history started young, my childhood stuffed with trips to the library to read stories about everyday people going through extraordinary events (American Girl, anyone?) From there, I moved on to nonfiction books to learn everything about a historical period and began writing my own short stories.

In 2019 I decided to publish my first book, Behind the Darkened Glass. Set in 1933, just after Hitler takes control of Germany, the story follows Hans von Peterson, an SS officer, who slowly climbs the ladder of the secret police that would be responsible for implementing the Holocaust. At the same time he begins a relationship with Charlotte Brookfield, fleeing her home in England after a scandal. As their romance blossoms the true nature of the new regime comes forward, and Hans is faced with decisions that will seal his eventual fate. Sparking the Behind the Darkened Glass series this book was followed by four more and focused on the hierarchy of the SS, which housed some of the worst war criminals from the Second World War.

After completing this series I focused on a trilogy centered around the forgotten Siege of Leningrad, the longest siege in history that lasted 872 days but did not fall to the Germans. The first book, Leningrad: The People’s War, won the 2021 Book of the Year – Historical Fiction Modern by The Coffee Pot Book Club. Recently, I have moved away from World War Two and have released The Midnight Call, focusing on the crew of the ill-fated RMS Titanic, and Infiltration, a cat-and-mouse story in 1980s East Germany between a female civilian wanting revenge and a Stasi officer responsible for her pain.

On this website you’ll find plenty of information about my writing, but I will also be sharing sneak peeks of upcoming releases, historical stories mentioned in my books, and plenty of other bookish content. So sit back, pour yourself your favorite beverage, and join me as we uncover historical stories, one event at a time.
